summer migrant program
Children are enrolled based on where they live and what school they attend. They must reside or attend the locations at which we coordinate our book party programs. Priority goes to participants that are multilingual and whose dominant language is Spanish.

Summer Migrant Program
Vamos Outdoors Project partners with the Bellingham, Mount Vernon, Lynden, and Burlington Edison School Districts to provide summer school programs for Migrant and Latine youth that combine bilingual academic instruction with outdoor experiences. Students engage with topics that affirm the youth's cultural identity and bilingualism, including indigeneity, connection to the land, representation, and racism. Some of the outdoor activities include exploring local parks, riding bikes, playing outdoor games, and more. Students are given an educational platform where their own lives are centered in the educational content and where they can make connections with representational mentors that speak their native language and have shared lived experiences. These summer programs allow Vamos to help families that move temporarily to the area to work in agriculture by providing a space for their children to engage in meaningful activities and enjoy their temporary home while their parents are at work.
