About us
Vamos Outdoors Project is a community-centric nonprofit serving Latine, Multilingual, Migrant, and Newcomer Youth in Whatcom and Skagit Counties. Our programs, including mountain biking, climbing, swimming, and after-school clubs, are designed to break barriers to outdoor activities. We provide free meals, transportation, equipment, and mentorship year-round to empower participants and build community.
Position Overview
We’re hiring two full-time Program Leads for our Earn-A-Bike program. They will collaborate with the Whatcom Mountain Bike Coalition (WMBC). This role is year-round and involves leading biking programs and supporting other Vamos initiatives during the winter months.
Key Responsibilities
Teach and mentor Latine youth in biking safely on trails and roads
Collaborate with WMBC to ensure program quality
Facilitate outdoor activities, classroom sessions, and community events
Contribute to administrative tasks and curriculum development
Conduct outreach with families and community partners
Drive a 15-passenger van for transportation
Collaboration: This is a highly collaborative position. The Earn-A-Bike Program Leads will work closely with Vamos Leadership Team members to complete outreach and enrollment tasks, ensure programming policies are in place, and maintain program integrity. They will also collaborate with the WMBC to align program goals and objectives.
qualifications
Minimum
Experience biking on roads/trails
Valid Washington driver’s license
Physically fit for outdoor activities (e.g., lifting 50 lbs., wearing a heavy backpack)
Passion for mentoring youth and learning new skills (e.g., swimming, climbing)
Preferred
Experience in teaching, mentoring, or outdoor education
Representative of the communities that Vamos serves: Latine, Migrant, Multilingual Learners
Fluent in Spanish and English (additional Indigenous languages a plus)
Familiarity with digital tools (e.g., Google Suite, Outlook)

Location
Work takes place at the Vamos office in Bellingham, Washington, and in the field across Whatcom and Skagit counties.
Compensation & Benefits
Vamos Outdoors Project is a non-hierarchical organization where all staff are on the same pay scale; work is distributed equitably; and organizational systems are designed to foster growth, collaboration, and communication.
$28/hour, with $1/hour annual raises
